10 Handy Tips

Cool Just sittin' and scratchin' this morning(my Mom's expression for happily doing nothing).. Took me a minute to get motivated enough to start writing. A beautiful day out there, warm but not sweltering. Enough sleep to feel refreshed. Some dream activity, so I guess I'm working something out while the body rests. I seldom  remember, and when I do, it usually doesn't make a lick of sense. Example: some lady I used to work with criticizing my fishing ability(!).
So I've just resigned myself to the fact that they're usually two separate(but interdependent)worlds. Still fascinating to me that I seem to have an active life once my eyes are closed and I'm drifting off into slumber. All kinds of different scenarios, some places I've actually visited, more often recombinations of places. I've superimposed New York structures over ones in Springfield, for instance. Second street became 164th.
Music news. Some new stuff on YouTube.  Yesterday was a pretty good practice day. I work a lot on rhythm, aligning myself with various playalongs. Sometimes I like to play with just me and a 'virtual' drummer. Finding some simple modal things which enable me to get out of my usual bag of tricks and come up with something new. I get bogged down when it's the same stuff over and over.
I have yet to get anything started in the way of a new composition or writing project. Sooner or later, this will manifest.
Nothing on the books until Friday, when I have a job at Robbie's. I'm finding myself avoiding the term gig, since it's one of those bits of 'musician lingo' everyone knows. It tickles me a bit to see non-musicians asking me about my gigs, since I know it makes them feel cool. But I also feel like they took 'our' word away from us. So I'll say job, or, better, bandjob. But however you put it, I'm playing on Friday.
Okay. Time for cup #2 of Morning Joe. Still watching the Ken Burns documentary on The Vietnam War. Fascinating, but like a rich food, I can only digest so much at a time. Some things I already knew about, like the Tet Offensive and the My Lai massacres. Many I didn't, and particularly the perspectives of the soldiers on both sides.
Well, thanks for reading, whoever-reads-this. Happy Tuesday to you(in our office it was kinda like Monday Lite). Ich bin outa here. More later.
