Sam's Saturday Sadhana
Last gasp of Indian Summer. I think Monday is the last nice day we're due to have, and then we continue our descent into Winter.
A gig at Montvale Estates today with an organ trio. Mainly Christmas songs, being the season. The guys are pleasant to work with and we did a good show for the folks. Can't beat it. A fun hour's playing.
On gigs such as this one, I like to approach them as jobs(but not the usual connotation of job as an onerous duty)and see how well I can fit into the picture. How well I can do the job. I have fun sometimes playing "inside", with shorter lines, more lyrically. So that's what I was trying for today.
Anymore, I avoid playing bars-with a few exceptions(Robbie's and The Alamo). Okay, two exceptions. The crowds and noise get to me, wear me down. Quieter venues are definitely more up my alley. That was a simple solution.
The only other beef I have with playing out is the lack of social opportunities. I don't know that they were all that much there back in the 80's(when I was in my 30's), but you felt like you had more of a shot.
This one I don't have an answer to. It's a puzzler. A conundrum even. Sooner or later I'll resolve it. For now, I dunno...
Anyway! That's my Saturday news. Thanks for reading it, whoever-reads-this. Happy Saturday to you, what's left of it(I usually write this drivel in the morning). More later.
