Sam's Saturday Sadhana
Gracious good morning, whoever-reads-this. I know somebody must read it because it gets hits. Not all that many, but hits nonetheless.
This is the first sunny day we've had in over a week. It's cold as all getout--11 was the last temp I noticed--but there's bright sunshine to replace the cloudiness we had all week.
These are the days you want to hibernate. Fortunately there's enough grub to feed one human and two felines for at least a couple such days, so hibernation is possible. I've been out of the house Monday, Thursday and Friday of this week, so cabin fever isn't a concern.
Music news. I've been listening of late to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Bela is a banjo player. A very good banjo player. Lots of virtuosity in the music. Having Victor Wooten on bass and Howard Levy on piano and harmonica certainly provides the necessary chops to play this often intricate and difficult music.
One of my friends lent me at least 4 Bela Fleck albums and 2 by Steely Dan. This was ages ago, and I'm finally getting around to listening. Every time I visit this particular friend I leave with all kindsa stuff under my arms. Sometimes it's a keyboard, usually just a handful of CDs to help ease the clutter in his basement.
Haven't gotten to the Steely Dan just yet. Still reveling in the Bela Fleck stuff. Pretty damned impressed with it.
Otherwise, not much going on. I have a gig next Friday, and others into February and March. Today may well be a good guitar practice day. It's certainly a good day to stay in, as cold as it is out there.
I tried yesterday to do some taping, and have one thing recorded which I've yet to hear back. Trying to maintain some semblance of chops. Inspiration will come back when it's good and ready, but it should return..Still plenty on YouTube to check out if you so desire.
Not much else to say here. This is one of my favorite points in the day: waking up with a cup of Morning Joe(which needs refilling)and writing in here. Thanks for reading, whoever-reads-this. More later.
