    Thursday's news

CoolWe're back to the overcast days. Nature's unsmiling face. Nothing going until next week. A gig on Tuesday and a Colonoscopy on Thursday. Big week.
Just about every guy I've talked to who's around my age  has been through this. So I'm not spooked by it, but will still be glad when it's all over.
Some guitar creativity yesterday, which resulted in 2 new posts on YouTube. Stumbled onto a wave of John Scofield jams. He's never been my favorite, but I still like what he does. Just like Heinekken is not my favorite beer, but I'll enjoy one if that's all they have.
A few new gigs on the calendar. One for this month, two in July and two in August. And two of the gigs are mine!
With your own gigs, you have the privilege of calling the shots: your tunes, your show.. But you've got to hire all the people to play with you, and then make sure they get enough playing time in so they'll want to work with you again. And then keep the crowd happy--if you have one!
So it's a mixed blessing- but, since it is your show, you generally have a lot more energy toward the whole project. Nobody loves you like you.
My main 'employing unit', the Dan Rivero Trio,  dissolved this year, so that's poked a big hole in my schedule. Normally this time of year we'd be doing all kindsa private parties out at Panther Creek and some kinda regular gig someplace. This was an organ trio, primarily R & B: keyboards/bass/vocals, guitar and drums. I'd been with them sporadically over the years, and full-time since July of 2011.
That's a damn shame. I had a lot of fun playing with them. Really enjoyed it.
Anyway, more stuff on the calendar and more stuff on YouTube. Thanks as ever for checking in, whoever-reads-this. More later.
