Tuesday's loquacious news
A brilliantly sunny day out there. I have to shut the blinds in here to be able to read the screen. My future is so bright, I need sunglasses...
Yesterday was a day of waiting for medical results, and practicing. I had a checkup on Friday, and they do the various bloodwork in the lab immediately following. There's always that anticipation of the results. Not all that worrisome, but still anything can happen.
Generally, I've found that the "we've got a problem" calls happen first thing in the morning. My call was around 11. Everything's fine.
Music News. Three new ones on YouTube. Back to practicing, and regaining chops. Even if you've been playing for 50+ years, you still have to practice to keep that facility.
A couple gigs on the books for later in the month, and a few in December. Moderate activity. Just enough to get my somewhat agoraphobic ass out of the house.
For a long time now, gigging has been a bit of a conundrum. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Keep meaning to blog(often a cathartic activity as far as those nasty ambivalences), but- well, maybe today's the day.
Bottom line though: I love to play. This often overrides the negative aspects--the noise and crowds, playing for women half my age who, naturally, want nothing to do with me, the feeling of being on display(I'm sure I can come up with more!)--and thus enables me to concentrate on what's truly important. The music.
Fortunately the things I like about playing out are all central to the job. I like playing, and playing along with other musicians, and communicating that to the crowd. Visiting with some of the listeners is also good. I especially like this when it's my gig.
Yeah, I should blog about this. Running on here. So that's my news on this Tuesday. Thanks for reading, if you made it this far, whoever-reads-this. More later. And hopefully less long-winded...
