Good morning, whoever-reads-this. In bed before midnight, up just after 8. No tossing or turning, just pretty much straight to dreamland. Quite a lively place. Some of my adventures stuck with me for a minute upon waking, only to fade back into the ethers. When I do remember something from my dreams, it seems that it's lost in translation when I write it down. Makes little or no sense. One such remembrance had someone criticizing my fishing ability(!).
Yesterday was a most productive day. Cleaned house and practiced. Even recorded a couple things and posted them to my YouTube page. Moment's Notice and Giant Steps. I've played both a million times over the years. They're much more doable than was first the case, but still not easy. Can't go into automatic pilot on them. Gotta keep my thinking cap on.
I'm doing some different things in my solos now. Trying to leave more space, and use simpler rhythmic ideas to connect with the rhythm section. Getting away from the endless straight-8ths in my lines. Working simpler seems to result in better time, and a more interactive relationship with the music.
This is another easy week. Next week will be busier, with Dental stuff on Tuesday and gigs on Friday and Saturday. And the week following goes back to easy. An easy week always feels great after a busy one.
One thing I've found that helps the occasional doldrums of too-much-time-on-my-hands is to have daily goals. Every day, you have one simple thing to get done. Accomplishing this gives you a sense of purpose, and this helps you sleep, since you've actually Done Something.
Rambling. Time to wrap this one up. As ever, thanks for reading, whoever-reads-this. Happy almost-Friday to you. More later.
